Why are my YouTube videos not playing?
Following the safeguarding guidelines, the school restricts YouTube content to restricted mode, meaning that some videos are unavailable. Staff can get around these by logging on to their school Google account, using the instructions below:
Log onto school Google account.
- Goto the portal and click login on the top right:
- On the login page, log in using your username (not email address) and password:
- In the Staff portal, select Google Apps:
This will log onto your school Google account.
You should then be able to watch the YouTube videos, in that browser.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will may NOT be able to access links if the video is restricted.
YouTube's Restricted Mode is designed to filter out potentially inappropriate or mature content based on a set of criteria.
Videos that might be restricted in YouTube's Restricted Mode:
- Mature or explicit content: Videos with adult themes, including violence, sexual content, or graphic images.
- Strong language: Videos with excessive profanity or offensive language.
- Drugs or alcohol use: Content that promotes or features the use of drugs, alcohol, or other controlled substances.
- Violence: Videos depicting graphic violence, physical harm, or injury, including real-world events or fictional scenarios.
- Hate speech: Content that promotes hatred or discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics.
- Sensitive or controversial topics: Videos discussing sensitive subjects like terrorism, self-harm, or abuse may be restricted.
- Sexualized content: Videos that feature sexual discussions, innuendo, or images, even if they aren't explicit.
- Humour with inappropriate themes: Comedy or satire that includes mature themes, inappropriate jokes, or offensive material.
- Copyright claims: If a video violates copyright law, the content owner can issue a claim through YouTube's Content ID system, which may result in the video being blocked or removed.
- Geographic restrictions: Some videos might be blocked in certain regions due to copyright licensing issues**.**
- Content flagged by users: Videos flagged as inappropriate by the YouTube community or moderators.
